At the age of fifteen, Sensei Hans de Jong travelled to Holland to continue his education. After he left School he enlisted in the Army for two years. He returned to Australia in 1973. While in Holland he trained in Taekwondo, Shotokan Karate and Aikido for a number years. Before going to Holland Sensei Hans de Jong had been accepted into the ‘closed-door’ training sessions for Pencak Silat. At that time you had to be at least 18yrs old and hold a green-belt in Jujutsu before you could join these sessions. They were not open to the general public, Sensei Hans de Jong was too young at that time, but wanted to learn Pencak Silat, so Shihan Jan de Jong asked the other members for their permission. In the 1970’s Sensei Hans de Jong assisted his father in teaching the Australian Special Air-Service Regiment (SAS) when his father was the chief instructor and advisor to the regiment. This relationship resulted in the development of a close combat/hand to hand combat system to be utilized throughout the Australian Army.
In 1990 Sensei Hans de Jong was awarded a ‘Shodan-Rank Certificate’ by the Dutch branch of Shihan Hirokazu Kanazawa’s (9th Dan) Shotokan Karate International (SKI). In August 2003 Sensei Hans de Jong was awarded the Rank of 6th Dan, by the Australian Ju-Jitsu Association (AJJA). Sensei Hans de Jong's technical knowledge and abilities are supplemented by an encouraging, supportive, non confrontational attitude which students regularly warm to and respect.
